Apprenticeships

Inglant Zekaj

Plumbing and Heating Apprentice

In March 2019, whilst undertaking an annual gas check at a Waltham Forest Council house, two of our engineers were approached by Inglant Zekaj, the teenage son of the resident. Inglant was currently studying a Level 2 Plumbing course. He asked the engineers what it was like working for Aston Group, and whether we offered apprenticeships. When he was told that we did, they encouraged him to apply. Inglant, reassured by their friendliness, positive feedback about the company and professional competency, contacted us to see if we had any apprenticeship vacancies.

We didn’t, however, we were so impressed by his obvious desire to learn and progress, along with his proactive, polite and friendly nature that our Construction Manager immediately agreed to interview him.

After a very successful interview, where Inglant was able to showcase his positive, enthusiastic and respectful attitude towards the industry, we decided to create an apprenticeship for him.

Inglant was placed on a 2 year Level 3 Plumbing and Heating apprenticeship course in September 2019, and over the next two years succeeded in proving that we made the right decision to give this local young person a chance and the support he needed to start his career.

Inglant blossomed during his apprenticeship and has willingly helped give back to other young people interested in apprenticeships.

He has attended school and college career/apprentice events, and appeared in publicity videos for Waltham Forest Council. He has been able to give a true account of what it is like to be an apprentice and to encourage others to earn and learn on the job!

My experience as an apprentice at Aston Group so far has been one of the best experiences of my life as I am learning new things every day and become more independent in every job I do.”

Becoming an apprentice ambassador

Inglant took part in a London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Apprenticeship promotional campaign representing Aston Group for National Apprenticeship Week.

We are delighted to say that following his apprenticeship completion in August 2021, he accepted our offer of permanent employment and we look forward to watching his skills and career progress.
